The Drowsy Chaperone Novello Theatre (from 14th May 2007)

Elaine Paige returns to the West End for the first time in 7 years to star in the Broadway smashhit musical, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE. This irresistible, totally original, five-time Tony Award-winning show will magically transport you to a world of high-kicking, toe-tapping delight.

As a die-hard musical theatre fan drops the needle on his favourite cast album, an outrageously funny musical from the 1920s bursts to life in his living room. What follows is the uproarious tale of a pampered starlet determined to give up show business to get married and her ruthless producer intent on sabotaging the nuptials. Add to this a Latin lover, a debonair groom, an English butler, a pair of gangsters disguised as pastry chefs and a very tipsy chaperone, and all manner of mix-ups and mayhem are set to ensue.

If you’ve ever sat in a darkened theatre and thought, “Dear Lord in heaven, please let it be good”, this is the show for you. It will be!

It was again renamed as the Whitney Theatre in 1911 before again becoming the Strand Theatre in 1913.
