George
and Ira Gershwin's classic, Porgy and Bess, premieres at
London's Savoy Theatre in a major new £3 million
musical production adapted and directed by Trevor Nunn.
A bittersweet love story set in South Carolina during the Great Depression, the
work features arguably one of the greatest, most beautiful and moving musical
scores ever written for the stage, including such classics as Summertime, I Got
Plenty o' Nothin', It Ain't Necessarily So and I Loves You, Porgy.
This new production, drawing on the story's southern roots, will also bring together
one of the biggest companies in the West End, with a cast of 40 performers and
a 20-piece orchestra. |
