MACBETH Gielgud Theatre (21st September - 1st December 2007)

An anatomy of the relationship between ambition and corruption, Macbeth is one of Shakespeare's most bloody and fear-filled tragedies.

Rupert Goold, who recently directed Patrick Stewart in the Royal Shakespeare Company's acclaimed production of The Tempest, now directs Stewart as Macbeth, the man who murders king and comrade in his quest for the crown, only to lose it all.

Joining Patrick Stewart (Macbeth) and Kate Fleetwood (Lady Macbeth), are Paul Shelley (Duncan), Scott Handy (Malcolm), Ben Carpenter (Donalbain), Martin Turner (Banquo), Michael Feast (Macduff), Mark Rawlings (Lennox), Tim Treloar (Ross), Bill Nash (Angus), Christopher Knott (Old Seyward), Christopher Nolan (Seyton), Hywel John (Bloody Captain), Suzanne Burden (Lady Macduff), Polly Frame, Niamh McGrady, Sophie Hunter (Witches).

Gielgud Theatre
Gielgud Theatre - Designed by W G R Sprague in 1906 this classical Edwardian domed structure has undergone three name changes.   Originally known as the Hicks, the name was changed in 1909 to the Globe.   Although a name synonymous with Shakespeare his plays have rarely been performed here.   In 1995 it was given its present name in honour of Sir John Gielgud who first appeared here in 1939 as director and star of The Importance Of Being Earnest.   Over time the theatre has developed a reputation for a mix of comedies and drama.
If you can't find the seats you are looking for it doesn't necessarily mean the show is sold out.
