BLOOD BROTHERS   Phoenix Theatre

Willy Russell's award-winning musical Blood Brothers tells the moving story of Liverpudlian twins, separated at birth because their mother cannot afford to keep them both, who go on to lead very different lives.

The pressures of superstition, economics and class trap them both and seal their fate. Their paths are destined to cross again in both friendship and anger with the most tragic consequences imaginable.

Phoenix TheatreThe Phoenix Theatre - more than any other theatre in London, is closely associated with the great Noel Coward.    When the Gilbert Scott-designed theatre opened in 1930 its first production was the unveiling of the now classic Noel Coward's Private Lives.   Along with the playwright, Gertrude Lawrence, Adrienne Allen and Laurence Olivier made up the original cast.   Throughout the next 30 years the theatre continued to feature works of Coward, some of which he also acted in.   In recognition of this long association the foyer bar was named after him, and paintings and photos line the walls.    The 1980's saw a move towards musicals with the staging of Are You Lonesome Tonight? the bio-musical about Elvis Presley, and more recently, Willy Russell's Blood Brothers.
